    Description

    BILLING SPECIALIST (ABA Services)

Autism From The Start -- Olathe, KS

    About Us

At Autism From The Start, we provide ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) early intervention services to young children with autism and the families who love them. We also offer speech therapy (on a smaller scale) and ASD diagnostic evaluations, so our billing work spans a few different disciplines. We take our work seriously — but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We're looking for a detail-oriented Billing Specialist to help us keep claims, payments, and A/R running smoothly, so our clinical team can stay focused on what matters most: the kids.

    About the Role

As our Billing Specialist, you'll own the core of our billing cycle — submitting claims, reconciling payments, and chasing down denials until they're resolved. Authorizations, verification of benefits, credentialing, and KPI reporting all live with other folks on our team, so this role is nicely focused: you get to go deep on claims and collections without getting pulled into a dozen other directions.

You'll also be a friendly, steady voice for our families — walking new families through what to expect financially, and being there to answer questions or talk through payment plans when things come up. This isn't a "hide behind a screen" billing job. We want someone who's just as comfortable running a claim report as they are hopping on a call with a parent to explain a bill with warmth and patience.

This role is ideal for someone who's meticulous with the numbers, genuinely likes people, and wants real ownership over a well-defined piece of the revenue cycle.

    What You'll Do

    • Submit accurate, timely claims across payers, including Kansas Medicaid, spanning ABA, speech therapy, and ASD diagnostic evaluation services
    • Reconcile payments against claims and track down discrepancies
    • Chase denials — figure out what went wrong, fix it, resubmit, and follow through until it's resolved
    • Own accounts receivable and stay on top of outstanding or aging claims
    • Keep billing records accurate and up to date in CentralReach
    • Double-check claims against EVV data before they go out
    • Lead friendly, clear conversations with new families about financial expectations and what to expect from the billing process
    • Meet with families as needed to answer billing questions, explain costs, and talk through payment plans — with patience and genuine warmth
    • Flag any patterns in denials or payer headaches to leadership
    • Loop in the authorizations/VOB and credentialing teams when a billing issue traces back to something on their end

    What We're Looking For

    • 2+ years of ABA billing experience (claims, payment posting, denials, A/R)

    • Required: Hands-on experience with CentralReach

    • Required: Experience billing Kansas Medicaid

    • Required: Experience billing for speech therapy services

    • Required: Experience billing for psychological/diagnostic evaluations (e.g., ASD diagnostic evaluations)
    • Solid knowledge of ABA-specific CPT codes (97151, 97153, 97155, 97156, etc.)
    • Experience with EVV systems and matching claims to EVV data
    • A track record of actually resolving denials and keeping A/R clean, not just tracking it
    • Sharp attention to detail and strong organizational instincts
    • Genuinely warm, clear communication skills — you're comfortable leading conversations about money with families who are often navigating something hard
    • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote setup

Nice to have: Experience building or improving billing workflows
