Bilingual School Clerical Assistant

Position Description

JOB SUMMARY

Assists office staff and administration, completes a variety of general and clerical office duties, including but not limited to, answering phones, filing, typing, computer input, preparing and maintaining pupil records and reports as needed. Will be required to speak, write and read Spanish and perform oral and written translation from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in answering telephone calls and greeting students, staff, and general public.
  • Computer skills that include word processing, database and spreadsheets
  • Assists with scanning and processing discipline referrals and letters to parents.
  • Assists in the maintenance of student files.
  • Acts as translator for Student Study Team meetings, IEPs, Expulsion prehearings and hearings and assists in translating for walk-ins.
    1. Translates district letters and other documents from English into Spanish; translates outside communications from Spanish to English.
  • Assists in preparing reports for the school, district and other agencies.
  • Receives, sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Maintains records of equipment inventory
  • Accepts delegated assignments from Principal's Secretary
  • Performs other office duties as required.
  • Translate oral and written information without bias

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Required to:

  • Possess High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Speak, write and read Spanish and pass District test for bi-lingual fluency.
  • Type 45 words per minute

Ability to:

  • Perform clerical work with accuracy and speed
  • Compile and maintain accurate and complete records and reports
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and adults
  • Meet the public tactfully and courteously and represent the District
  • Learn and be able to articulate school rules and policies to students and parents

Knowledge of:

  • Basic modern office methods ,including computers, word processing and common office machines

EXPERIENCE:

Sufficient experience to have acquired skills in the use of computers and modern office technology, as well as efficient office practices and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment: Works mostly indoors in office settings; some travel from office to office
