Job Title: Bilingual Parent Educator - MIECHV
Reports To: Program Director
School/Program: Lumin Education Bachman Lake Community School
Hours/Status: Full-Time, 40 hours per week, 250-day year
Summary:
The Bilingual Parent Educator works with families and their children from prenatal to 4yrs old using skills in partnering, facilitating and reflecting with parents. Parent educators provide parent education and family support to enhance the quality of parenting, increase a parent's understanding of child development and work with parents to help their child learn, grow and develop to meet their full potential. This role contributes to our mission of transforming education by creating learning environments that inspire and nurture children from all cultural and economic backgrounds. We strive to be a compassionate, dynamic learning community that demonstrates integrity, respect, and sustainability, guided by Montessori principles. This position must be knowledgeable of child development, parenting techniques, community resources, cultural competence and confidentiality. Parent Educators work in the families' homes to assist parents in understanding the development of their child and approaches to behavior management. Fluency in English and Spanish required.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Education/Experience:
Fluent in English and Spanish required.
Fluent in K'iche is a plus.
Be an organized, independent and self-motivated worker, with unquestionable integrity.
Be able to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
Demonstrated competency utilizing email, basic data entry and word processing.
Personal, licensed and insured reliable transportation is necessary to provide home visits throughout the programs' service area.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must complete required training from the Parents as Teacher National Institute. Every year after initial training, Parent Educator must annually complete required professional development hours in order to remain a certified Parents as Teachers parent educator.
Infant CPR and First Aid required. Training can be sponsored if needed.
EXPERIENCE:
Professional experience working with young children and their families is recommended.
