Bilingual Museum Educator

The Bilingual (Spanish/English) Museum Educator is an essential member of the Education team that will facilitate engaging learning experiences in English, in Spanish, and in bilingual Spanish/English formats. The Bilingual Museum Educator is primarily responsible for leading and facilitating field trips and student experiences at the Museum for K-12 students. Educators will follow the learning goals of teaching guides provided by the Assistant Director, Student and Family Learning for this purpose. Bilingual Museum Educators work together to adapt the English-language field trips for Spanish-speaking and ENL students, including transcreating written materials, identifying vocabulary lists, suggesting support aids, and modifying field trip content and format. Bilingual Museum Educators also facilitate interactive experiences for audiences of all ages during professional learning programs for teachers, family workshops, community events, and social impact programming. Programming takes place primarily at the Museum, but Bilingual Museum Educators are also engaged to work at offsite locations around the city, in schools, and online. Additionally, Bilingual Museum Educators are responsible for preparing materials and supplies for upcoming education programs, conducting direct outreach, and assisting with program development as needed.
Educators fulfill the Museum’s Education and Engagement mission by engaging learners in examining the city’s past so that they may understand the present and envision their role in shaping the city’s future. Educators utilize the Museum of the City of New York’s innovative exhibitions and extensive collections to facilitate experiences focused on four key areas: history, art, culture, and civic engagement.
This is a part-time, regular position that reports directly to the Assistant Director, K-12 Learning.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and able to traverse through office and museum gallery environment. Requires the ability to operate standard office equipment including computers and keyboards for extended periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. On occasion, the employee may be required to work outside events with weather conditions including heat and cold. Requires travel to offsite locations throughout the five boroughs, including schools.
