Financial Director/Controller Position Summary The Financial Director/Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Children’s Rehabilitation Institute TeletonUSA and Fundacion TeletonUSA, ensuring financial stability, transparency, and compliance with all applicable regulations. This role is pivotal in managing the organization’s finances, with a particular focus on healthcare, grants, donations, and other fundraising revenues. The Financial Director/Controller will collaborate with executive leadership, staff, and external stakeholders to maintain and grow the financial health of the organization while ensuring efficient use of resources in alignment with the nonprofit’s mission. Working Conditions General office and sedentary, requiring extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Ability to exert a light degree of physical effort including carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking and the assisted lifting of objects and materials up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and distance vision. Limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, humidity, temperature and noise extremes, wetness and vibrations. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to reach, bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays. Essential Functions Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, payroll and auditing. Prepare and present accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Board of Directors, Committee Members, and Executive Leadership. Ensure timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Monitor cash flow and develop cash management strategies to ensure the organization can meet financial obligations. Develop, monitor, and report on the organization’s grant and donation budgets. Ensure compliance with all terms and conditions of grants and donations. Prepare financial reports for donors, funders, and granting organizations. Provide detailed financial analysis and projections related to grants and funding. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS regulations, nonprofit tax law, healthcare law, and other applicable reporting standards. Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. Oversee preparation and filing of tax returns and other compliance-related documents (e.g., IRS Form 990). Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and mission. Provide ongoing financial forecasting and analysis, highlighting potential risks and opportunities. Work closely with department heads to track expenditures and adjust forecasts as necessary. Coordinate and manage the annual audit process in collaboration with external auditors. Review audit results and make recommendations for improvements in financial practices. Ensure timely submission of financial reports to regulatory bodies and funders. Contribute to the organization’s strategic planning by providing financial insights and long-term forecasting. Assist with identifying funding needs and develop strategies for fundraising and grant acquisition. Collaborate with executive leadership on the development of financial strategies to advance the nonprofit’s mission. Supervise and mentor the accounting/finance team, fostering a positive and productive work environment. Provide training and professional development opportunities for staff to ensure efficient operations. Lead efforts to streamline financial processes and improve organizational efficiency. Oversee the financial management of healthcare-related revenues, including patient payments, insurance reimbursements, and government funding (e.g., Medicaid, Medicare). Ensure proper allocation of costs between program services, administrative expenses, and fundraising to maintain financial transparency and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. Work with healthcare providers and department heads to monitor and control costs, ensuring efficient service delivery while maintaining quality care. Stay updated on healthcare-specific financial regulations and ensure compliance with healthcare-related grants, funding, and reimbursement requirements (e.g., HIPAA, Medicaid, Medicare billing). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred) Minimum of 5 years' experience in financial management or accounting, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit or healthcare setting. Valid Texas Driver License CPA or other relevant certifications preferred. Criminal background check Non-DOT drug test Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including grant management and fund accounting. Familiarity with IRS regulations related to nonprofit organizations (e.g., Form 990, 501(c)(3) compliance). Proven ability to work with external auditors, board members, and funding agencies Strong proficiency in financial software (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel EHR/EMR Systems Bilingual in Spanish Special Notes Very important to this position are ability to lead and management a team, excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills, active listening, mathematics, financial management, ethical conduct, accuracy, speaking, reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, speaking, judgment and decision making.
