Bilingual/ESL (LEP) Teacher Assistant

Job Title: Bilingual/ESL (LEP) Teacher Assistant

Reports To: Building Principal

Classification: Paraprofessional (Clerical/Teacher Assistant)

Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Days: 188

Salary: See Compensation Plan for Paraprofessional/Administrative Support Staff, Pay Grade 202

Primary Purpose: Assist the teacher(s) in the implementation of the Bilingual/ESL programs.

Qualifications/Skills:

Education/Certification: Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment. Educational Aide Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with children. Ability to work and communicate with children and adults effectively. Fluent in English and Spanish (verbal and written).

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Support:

  • Adhere to TEA and the districts policies and procedures.
  • Assist in carrying out the instructional program.
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assist in proper classroom management and implement daily schedule.
  • Assist in record keeping and clerical duties.
  • Assist teachers in the computer lab.
  • Assist in communicating with parents (may include translations).

Student Management:

  • Work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce skills and concepts.
  • Assist with testing of students for program purposes.

Other:

  • Perform related duties as required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Equipment Used:

  • Computer and various office equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. This position requires regular in-person interaction with the public.
  • Physical Demands: Repetitive hand motions. Prolonged use of the computer. Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling. Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
