Job Announcement

Bilingual/ESL Instructional Assistant

The position of a Bilingual/ESL Instructional Assistant will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. POSITION FUNCTION AND PURPOSE: Assist Bilingual and/or ESL teachers in preparation and management of the classroom environment, and instructional support. Work under the supervision of a certified teacher and campus administrator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  • Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  • Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside, and outside the classroom. This includes the lunchroom, bus, and outside duty.
  • Keep the teacher informed of the special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Participate in staff development on sheltered instruction, and language acquisition strategies, and other training to improve job performance.
  • Have regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibility and requirements of the supplemental position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational/Certification:

High school graduate or equivalent

Must have one of the following:

  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
  • Treasuring our Paraprofessionals Certificate (must be obtained prior to employment; applicant is responsible for all associated costs)

And an Educational Aide Certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, collaborative, and interpersonal skills

Perform duties with minimum supervision

Be fluent in English and Spanish, both orally and in writing

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions. Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Frequent standing, stooping, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Frequent walking and reaching. Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or over) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving adaptive and other classroom equipment. Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise. Exposure to biological hazards; exposure to biological hazards.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 Days

SALARY: Paraprofessional Pay Grade 202, SCE and/or SCE-Bilingual Education Allotment
