The Kathryn Wasserman Davis School of Russian announces an opening for a temporary Bilingual Assistant in Russian. The position is available during the summer 2026 session, located on the Middlebury College campus in Vermont. Our unique program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction.\u202f
Essential to the functioning of each Language School, the Bilingual Summer Staff members organize and implement multiple facets of the academic and non-academic operations of the School; provide language, co-curricular, and residential support to students; work alongside the Assistant and Associate Directors, and Director in the management of School operations; and collaborate with Faculty in support of students' language acquisition.\u202f
In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided.\u202f
This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible hourly position. The wage for this position is $17 per hour. *Subject to change once 2026 budgets have been approved.

(1) Program ambassador\u202f
- Serves as primary in-language point of contact for students and faculty. Knowledgeable about the program as well as campus resources and policies.*\u202f
- Actively engages with students, providing linguistic practice, encouragement, and support outside of class, during meals and activities and in the dorms, offices, and social spaces.*\u202f
- Supports students' commitment to the Language Pledge and the rigorous learning environment.*\u202f
(2) Student life\u202f
- Represents the School administration in the dorms and social spaces, especially on evenings and weekends.*\u202f
- Resides in dorms. Provides guidance and non-academic support. Monitors adherence to the Language Pledge.
- Responds to student and faculty emergencies and urgent situations. Directs students and faculty to appropriate offices and resources, academic and non-academic.*\u202f
(3) Co-curricular activities and events\u202f
- Facilitates the School's cultural program, an integral part of the immersion-based academic experience. Liaises with campus offices including but not limited to public safety, dining services, events management, media services, print shop, theater, and facilities services.*\u202f
- Designs, plans, and implements complex school-wide cultural events. Designs and leads regular co-curricular activities.\u202f
- Assists faculty, guests, and the director at/with lectures, performances, and other events.*\u202f
- Coordinates inter-school activities.\u202f
(4) Technology\u202f
- Provides general IT support for faculty, guests, and students (on School and personal devices).*\u202f
- Manages circulation of School technology, equipment, and film archive.\u202f
- Provides technical support at events, from basic a/v at lectures to sound and light design at staged performances.\u202f
- Provides classroom technical support, as requested by faculty.\u202f
(5) Communications\u202f
- Communicates with students and faculty on a variety of platforms: email, website, social media, print media, announcements.*\u202f
- Designs and edits web content, especially on instructional in-language sites.\u202f
- Develops media content and disseminates publications, including calendars, newspaper, posters, event programs, etc.\u202f
- Manages photography and videography. Edits photo and video content. Prepares slideshows, photo exhibits, event videos, etc.\u202f
(6) School office\u202f
- Administers School office.\u202f
- Serves as in-language point of contact for students, faculty, and guests needing drop-in assistance.\u202f
- Scheduling of events and activities.\u202f
