Job Description

Description

The Business Intelligence (BI) Team Lead will play a critical role supporting Medline’s BI Modernization and analytics initiatives. This role will lead BI project work while remaining hands-on in the design, development, and delivery of solutions on Microsoft Fabric. The BI Team Lead will ensure high-quality, scalable, and trusted data products that support Medline’s operations, inventory management, and manufacturing business functions.

This role bridges business and technology by negotiating and translating complex requirements into actionable solutions, building reusable, certified datasets, enabling self-service and enterprise-level analytics, driving data governance, and promoting best practices across the BI organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead BI delivery as data products: own reporting and analytics solutions across operations, inventory, and manufacturing — treating each deliverable as a managed product with clear owners, consumers, SLAs, documentation, and a lifecycle from intake through retirement.

  • Build reusable, certified datasets: design and curate shared semantic models, conformed dimensions, and certified data products so business teams can compose new analytics without rebuilding foundations — driving “build once, reuse many” across the enterprise.

  • Lead Microsoft Fabric data engineering: architect and build solutions on OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, and Pipelines using medallion (bronze/silver/gold) patterns; optimize for Direct Lake performance, cost, and governance.

  • Negotiate requirements with the business: partner with stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and reporting needs — challenging vague or duplicative asks, surfacing tradeoffs (scope, time, cost, complexity

  • Communicate and present with impact: translate analytical insights into narratives and visuals; lead working sessions, demos, and steer reviews that move decisions forward and build trust with leaders.

  • Set and enforce BI development standards: ensure consistent implementation of data modeling, performance optimization, testing, deployment, version control, and documentation across the team.

  • Review deliverables for quality: validate data accuracy, performance, scalability, and usability before release; lead troubleshooting of data issues, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents.

  • Enable self-service analytics: promote certified datasets, standardized metrics, and governed semantic models so business users can confidently explore data on their own.

  • Align with enterprise data strategy: collaborate with BI engineering, data architecture, and governance teams to ensure solutions fit Medline's broader BI, Fabric, and data product roadmap.

  • Drive documentation and continuous improvement: champion knowledge sharing, runbooks, design reviews, and retrospectives to raise the bar across the team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field; or equivalent work experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or Data Engineering, including team-lead or senior-level responsibilities

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric data engineering — Lakehouse, Warehouse, OneLake, Dataflows Gen2, Notebooks, Pipelines, and medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold)

  • Demonstrated data product mindset — experience treating datasets and reports as products with defined owners, consumers, SLAs, versioning, and lifecycle management

  • Proven track record building reusable, certified datasets — conformed dimensions, shared semantic models, and governed data products that scale across multiple use cases

  • Experience designing, building, and maintaining enterprise data foundation layers

  • Strong understanding of data integration, ETL/ELT, data modeling, and warehouse concepts

  • Proven experience leading BI development initiatives

  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI for enterprise reporting and analytics, including semantic modeling and Direct Lake

  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data analysis, performance tuning, and troubleshooting

  • Experience designing dimensional models, KPIs, and certified data assets for analytics consumption

  • Ability to define, enforce, and evolve BI development and testing best practices

  • Strong requirements negotiation skills — ability to challenge business asks, scope effectively, surface tradeoffs, and align stakeholders on outcomes rather than outputs

  • Excellent presentation and storytelling skills — able to translate complex data into clear executive narratives and lead confident working sessions, demos, and steering reviews

  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and business teams

  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and mentoring skills within a team environment

Plus if:

  • Experience working with supply-chain-related business functions

  • SAP native HANA modeling experience

  • Experience implementing data product frameworks (data contracts, data mesh principles, or similar)
