Overview:

Position Summary

The Benefits Specialist is responsible for supporting the administration, delivery, and continuous improvement of employee benefit programs across Confluent Health. This role serves as a key resource for employees, leaders, vendors, and the People & Culture team by ensuring accurate and timely benefits administration, delivering exceptional employee support, maintaining compliance, and contributing to a positive employee experience.

The Benefits Specialist partners closely with the Benefits Manager, HR Operations, Payroll, and external vendors to administer health and welfare plans, retirement programs, leave programs, and employee well-being initiatives. The role also supports annual enrollment, acquisitions, integrations, communications, audits, and special projects.

This position requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

Benefits Administration

  • Administer health, welfare, retirement, and ancillary benefit programs.
  • Process employee enrollments, changes, qualifying life events, and terminations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely benefits data management within HRIS and vendor systems.
  • Reconcile eligibility and enrollment files between internal systems and external vendors.
  • Coordinate benefit-related payroll deductions and issue resolution.

Employee Experience & Support

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for employee benefit questions and concerns.
  • Educate employees on available benefit programs and resources.
  • Research and resolve complex employee benefit issues.
  • Deliver a high level of customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Support employee communications related to benefit offerings and changes.

Leave & Compliance Support

  • Assist with administration of leave programs including FMLA, ADA accommodations, state leave requirements, and company leave programs.
  • Support compliance activities related to ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
  • Participate in internal and external benefit audits.

Vendor & Operational Management

  • Partner with benefit carriers, brokers, and third-party administrators to resolve issues and improve service delivery.
  • Monitor vendor performance and escalate concerns when necessary.
  • Support implementation and testing of benefit system changes and enhancements.
  • Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and organizational changes affecting benefit programs.

Annual Enrollment & Strategic Initiatives

  • Support planning and execution of Annual Enrollment activities.
  • Assist with communication campaigns, system testing, employee education, and enrollment support.
  • Participate in benefits projects focused on operational efficiency, employee experience, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to process documentation and standard operating procedures.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of benefits administration, HR operations, leave administration, or related HR experience.
  • Working knowledge of employee benefit programs and HR processes.
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.

Preferred

  • 3-5 years of benefits administration experience.
  • Experience supporting multi-state organizations.
  • Experience with UKG or similar HRIS platforms.
  • Knowledge of ACA, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, FMLA, and related regulations.
  • CEBS, SHRM, PHR, or other HR-related certification.
