The Benefits Specialist supports the administration and operational management of the organization's employee benefits programs, including medical plans, ancillary benefits, leaves of absence, and workers' compensation. This role serves as a key resource for veterinary clinics and internal partners by providing guidance on benefits processes, resolving escalated issues, and ensuring accurate and compliant administration across a multi‑state workforce. The Benefits Specialist is responsible for maintaining benefits data, supporting annual enrollment and audits, developing documentation, and ensuring adherence to all state and federal regulations governing employee benefits.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister all employee benefits programs, including medical (self‑funded), dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life, disability, accident, wellness, and 401(k) plans.Support daily operations and compliance requirements for a multi‑state benefits program.Serve as the escalation point for complex benefits issues from teammates, clinics, vendors, and internal partners.Support benefits onboarding and integration activities for newly acquired clinics.Process new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, and benefits changes in accordance with policy and regulatory requirements.Administer all leave of absence programs, including FMLA, non‑FMLA, ADA, and disability leaves.Manage workers' compensation reporting, communication, and case coordination.Prepare and update benefits communications, including open enrollment materials, presentations, and training documents.Participate in benefits audits, compliance reporting, and annual enrollment activities.Conduct research, analysis, and documentation to support benefits programs, vendor processes, and operational improvements.Evaluate current programs and recommend enhancements aligned with organizational needs and industry best practices.Maintain benefits policies, procedures, and process documentation to support consistent program administration.Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, including ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, Section 125, 401(k) requirements, and IRS/DOL rules.Perform other duties assigned within the nature and level of work.Minimum Qualifications and Education RequirementsBachelor's degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.A minimum of three years of experience in benefits administration or employee benefits operations.Experience supporting multi‑state benefit and leave programs preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills preferred.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Excellent organizational and time‑management abilities with strong attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.Strong customer service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.Responsibilities and BenefitsHow You're SupportedAs part of the Mission Pet Health family, you get the stability of a local practice backed by the comprehensive benefits and resources of a larger network.
