Job Summary
The Behavioral Health Therapist supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior. The Behavioral Health Therapist will formulate a clinical diagnostic impression and diagnosis based on standard diagnostic criteria, provide evidence-based psychotherapy, and develop individualized plans of care for individuals identified in need of psychosocial support, emotional disorders, mental disorders, and/or substance use disorders. The provision of psychotherapy will be provided to individuals and may also include groups and families
Example of Essential Functions:
- Provides psychotherapy and behavioral health services to individuals, families, and groups in accordance with Maryland State license requirements and organizational policies.
- Conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessment, diagnosis of behavioral health conditions, evidence-based therapeutic interventions, education and support to optimize patient outcomes
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans
- Reviews and evaluates effectiveness of interventions on an ongoing basis
- Utilizes evidence-based therapeutic modalities
- Crisis counseling and referral to higher levels of care as indicated
- Collaboration with the care team, including but not limited to the referring provider, care manager, or referring community partner as appropriate
- Serves as advocate for patients and families
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in the electronic medical record
- Provides patient and family education regarding mental health conditions and treatment options
- Assumes responsibility for and completes board required continuing education requirements to maintain Maryland licensure and certifications
- Serves as a resource for staff
- Meet credentialing requirements and is eligible for participation with all payers
- Maintain understanding of insurance requirements necessary for the billing of services
- Coordinate appropriate discharge plans and referrals in collaboration with the other interdisciplinary team members. Provider appropriate follow up to ensure linkage with next providers of record when appropriate
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills

- Working knowledge of electronic health records
- Knowledge of diagnostic criteria
- Strong psychotherapy and counseling skills
- Ability to build therapeutic rapport with diverse populations
- Knowledge of crisis assessment and suicide risk evaluation
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
- Education:
- A Master’s degree in social work from an accredited school is required
- Master's or doctorate degree that qualifies for licensure or certification as MHC, LCPC, Clinical professional counselor, or professional counselor.
- Licensure:
- Maryland LCSW-C licensure or MHC, LCPC, or Clinical professional counsel
- An active LMSW license in the State of Maryland may be considered with relevant clinical experience and active participation in required board clinical supervision. A LCSW-C must be obtained once requirements for advanced licensure are met.
- Experience:
- Required: has performed at least 2 years of clinical supervised experience in clinical work after obtaining the degree reference above

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
Pay range: $36.63 - $52.65
