Position Title: Behavior and Academic Support Assistant

Pay Grade: According to RCS Classified Salary Schedule (Teacher Assistant Scale, Step 3)
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The Student Support Specialist serves as the on-site supervisor for a classroom of students. This individual ensures a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment by managing the physical classroom space, assisting students with academic and behavioral needs, and acting as a liaison between the school, families, and community support services. The specialist collaborates closely with teachers and school staff to promote student success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitating effective Alternative Learning Program ("ALP") transitions among participating students
Providing individualized case management services for participating students
Providing personal coaching and evidence-based support services to promote prosocial classroom behaviors and improved school engagement
Monitoring the academic progress of students in online instruction
Coordinating clinical behavioral health services per MOUs and individual plans
Providing progress updates to parents/guardians
Supervising and managing a classroom of students
Documenting attendance, participation, behavior, and student needs daily
Participating in student support team meetings and communicating student needs
Assisting with transitions, lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal
Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards
Engaging in ongoing professional development
Performing other duties as assigned
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required
Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college
Experience in an educational or behavioral setting preferred
Familiarity with virtual instruction platforms a plus
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to supervise students and manage classroom environments independently
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to address both academic and behavioral needs effectively
Knowledge of behavior management strategies and educational technology
Familiarity with student support resources and services
