BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education or designee, collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure the utilization of appropriate behavior intervention strategies for Special Education students in special day classes and inclusive settings.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Complete behavioral assessments for students displaying behaviors that are dangerous to selves, others, or property.
  • Write, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPS)
  • Collaborate with families to carry over behavior strategies for successful behavior management.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, support staff and parents to complete analysis, SIP''s, and adjust plans to be effective for individual students.
  • Consult with psychologists and school site teams to modify and implement Behavior Support Plans (plans for non

aggressive students) as requested to ensure success.

  • Collaborate with site/program staff to develop systems for managing crisis in the classroom.
  • Provide in-service/training in the areas of behavior analysis, basic behavior management, positive behavior intervention techniques, and SELPA approved behavior response procedures to school staff
  • Serve as an effective member of IEP teams.
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge and application of:

  • Regulations as they relate to Moderate/Severe students.
  • Knowledge of a SELPA approved, or other nationally recognized behavior response programs appropriate for use in school facilities.
  • Behavioral analysis and positive behavioral intervention techniques.
  • Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programming.
  • Special Education mandates related to behavior assessment and intervention.
  • Special Education IEP process.

Ability to:

  • Communicate ideas clearly in oral and written form.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, support staff, and administrators.
  • Work collaborative with large and small teams to effect change.
  • Develop and implement effective behavioral intervention plans.
  • Plan and implement quality in-service programs.
  • Work effectively with a wide range of staff at various school sites within a complex organization.

CREDENTIALS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Credentials/Certification: Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst preferred

Education: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master''s degree (or enrollment in a Master''s program) from an accredited college/university in Behavior Science, Behavior Analysis, Psychology or Education with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis.

Experience: 2 years of experience completing Function Analysis Assessments (FAA) leading to the design and implementation of behavioral intervention systems with elementary and secondary students in a school setting is desirable.
