The Bed Management Representative works under the supervision of the Project Manager. The Bed Management Representative receives reservation information from the physician or physician''s office. Designates and coordinates bed assignment, evaluating priority of admissions per administrative guidelines and patient diagnosis, coordinates with Care Managers upfront regarding physician orders and planned treatment to ensure proper placement of the patient in the bed. Contacts service areas to prepare for patient''s arrival. Coordinates all patient transfers and tracks bed availability.

- Bed Management Representative will obtain admitting orders from the physician when possible.
- Designates unit assignment and coordinates bed assignment for admissions to the acute campus, considering factors such as: priorities for admission per administrative guidelines, age, sex, diagnosis, individual physician preference and/or treatment required to ensure that the patient is placed in the most appropriate bed.
- Preadmits and activates all accounts for transfer/admission to Acute Rehab.
- Registers all Mental Health Unit patients, creating accounts out outpatient and inpatient visits. Also does all transfers and discharges of Mental Health Unit patients.
- Works closely with Care Managers and Nursing Directors to open additional nursing units, works with physicians and key contacts to coordinate patient admissions and transfers to different levels of care to ensure appropriate bed placement during bed shortages.
- Coordinates all patient transfers and tracks bed availability. Notifies the appropriate departments/persons regarding bed availability and placement of patients.
- Receives reservations for patients being admitted as direct acute inpatient, observation, emergency, and mental health from physicians and/or area hospitals.
- Other duties as assigned
Education
- Degree from an accredited school of practical nursing or nursing diploma or degree from an accredited school of nursing - Required
Work Experience
- 1 Year - Medical office/hospital experience - Required
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - State Licensure - Current and valid MO LPN License - Required within 90 Days Or
- Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensure/Or Compact State Licensure - Current and valid MO RN License - Required within 90 Days

- Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required
