Step into the field as our Battery Energy Storage Field Service Technologist
Picture your day: dawn at a grid-scale site, PPE on, SCADA alarms reviewed. You trace a fault through a single-line diagram, verify isolation, replace a component, and bring a BESS container safely back online. After lunch, you commission a fresh inverter stack, sync it to the EMS, log performance data, and close out your report before heading to your next site. If this sounds like your kind of work, read on.
What you will do
- Install, commission, inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain complete BESS infrastructure: lithium-ion battery racks, inverters, transformers, EMS, and all balance-of-plant systems.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and controls issues using schematics, drawings, and OEM documentation; drive swift, safe resolutions.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance aligned with OEM manuals and site procedures.
- Monitor system health, respond to alarms, faults, and outages, and restore availability quickly.
- Work confidently around high-voltage DC and AC, adhering to OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
- Document work clearly: service reports, maintenance logs, and incident records.
- Support upgrades, retrofits, and warranty activities to improve reliability and performance.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, and third-party vendors to plan and execute site work.
- Travel to project locations; participate in on-call and emergency response rotations.
What you bring
- High school diploma or GED (technical/trade school preferred).
- 2+ years in electrical, power generation, renewable energy, or energy storage environments.
- Solid grasp of DC fundamentals, three-phase AC power, and control circuits; can read single-line diagrams and detailed schematics.
- Hands-on, safe work history around high-voltage equipment.
- Comfort with diagnostic tools: multimeters, insulation testers, and laptop-based interfaces.
- Direct exposure to BESS, solar PV, or wind systems; familiarity with lithium-ion chemistries and thermal management.
- Experience using SCADA, monitoring platforms, or data analytics to drive decisions.
- Safety credentials such as NFPA 70E, OSHA 10/30, or equivalent.
- Sungrow PT1, PT2 experience.
Physical and work environment
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and comfortably climb ladders or stairs.
- Travel regularly; flex your schedule for nights/weekends as needed.
