Summary:

A Batch Operator in tea manufacturing is responsible for overseeing and managing the production process in which ingredients (primarily tea leaves and other additives) are blended, processed, and prepared in specific batches. Their role is critical to ensuring product consistency, quality, and efficiency in production.

Key Responsibilities of a Batch Operator in Tea Manufacturing:

1. Key Responsibilities:

  • Weighs and measures raw materials (tea leaves, herbs, flavors, etc.) based on batch records or formulas.
  • Prepares and stages materials for blending, infusion, or packaging processes.
  • Operates blending machines or kettles used to mix tea ingredients.
  • Monitors temperature, humidity, and timing to ensure proper processing.
  • Ensures consistency and quality of each batch according to specifications.
  • Sets up, operates, and cleans mixing, brewing, or drying equipment.
  • Performs routine checks and basic maintenance of machinery.
  • Maintains accurate batch records and logs, including lot numbers and quality control checks.
  • Follows standard operating procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and safety regulations.
  • Ensure correct setup of CIP circuits and tanks (alkaline, acid, rinse).
  • Confirm availability of chemicals and utilities (water, steam, etc.).
    • Run automatic or manual CIP cycles for:
    • Filling machines
    • Mixing tanks
    • Pipelines and valves
    • Heat exchangers
  • Monitor flow rates, temperatures, chemical concentrations, and cycle times.
  • Performs in-process checks such as moisture content, flavor checks, and visual inspections.
  • Reports deviations or quality issues to supervisors or quality assurance teams.
  • Works closely with other production staff (e.g., packaging operators, quality control) to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Communicates any delays, equipment malfunctions, or material shortages.
  • Forklift certified

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in food, beverage, or tea manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to follow precise instructions and safety protocols.
  • Basic math and computer skills for batching software or inventory tracking.
  • Physical ability to lift and move materials, stand for long periods, and work in a manufacturing environment.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have two (2) years batching experience in a bottling and/or manufacturing setting

Language Skills                                                        

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, SOPs, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

Other Skills                  

Forklift proficiency and experience consistent with expectations of passing Company forklift certification process.
