Opportunity Overview

Northramp is seeking a Basis and Network Developer 3 (Mid-Level) to join the team supporting the client's Cloud BPA Bridge program — a mission-critical effort to consolidate, modernize, and operate client's enterprise cloud services across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments under FedRAMP High authorization.

You will provide hands-on engineering and development support for client's cloud network infrastructure and database platforms within FedRAMP High-authorized Commercial Cloud Broker (CCB) environments. The role supports implementation, configuration, and ongoing operation of cloud networking, managed databases, and storage platforms underpinning client's enterprise cloud DevOps model.

This role is part of Northramp's integrated delivery model, where engineers and advisors work as one team to bring sound judgment, disciplined execution, and deep federal experience to high-stakes modernization programs.

Location & Work Arrangement

Hybrid, based in the Washington, DC metro area. On-site presence at designated client locations is expected on a cadence aligned to program needs. Remote work is supported around mission and security requirements. This role is not open to candidates outside the DC region.

The Ideal Candidate

You are an engineer who likes to build, configure, and operate. You’ve worked with cloud networking and databases in production, you know how to triage and resolve incidents, and you write the runbooks rather than just consume them. You’re comfortable working under the direction of senior architects while owning your assigned components end-to-end.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and manage Private Virtual Cloud Networks (PVCNs) — IP addressing, subnetting, route tables, security groups, firewall rules (minimum 1,000 per PVCN), and access control rules per SOO Section 4.1.6.1.
  • Deploy and maintain Virtual Load Balancing (VLB) — Application, Network, and Classic Load Balancers — ensuring high availability, SSL termination, and auto-scaling per SOO Section 4.1.6.2.
  • Support implementation and troubleshooting of Direct Connection Services (DCS) and VPN connectivity between client data centers and cloud environments, including IPsec tunnels and Verizon MPLS circuits.
  • Configure and manage DNS services, integrating cloud DNS with client’s on-premises infrastructure via GUI and API.
  • Deploy and manage managed relational databases (MS SQL, Oracle), NoSQL/DynamoDB-equivalent services, and Data Warehouse services — including backup configuration, scaling to 20,000 IOPS/6TB, and geo-redundancy across data centers more than 500 miles apart per SOO Sections 4.1.3.1–4.1.3.3.
  • Configure and maintain Scalable Block Storage (SBS), Highly Scalable Network Storage (S3-equivalent), Glacial/archival storage, and Auto-Scaling File Storage (AFS) per SOO Section 4.1.4.
  • Support cloud service monitoring (CSM) — metric collection, log monitoring, alarm setup, and integration with client's Splunk SIEM per SOO Section 4.1.9.
  • Assist with deployment and configuration of IAM and KMS services — key rotation, HSM integration, role-based access controls.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, STIG hardening, and security configuration of network appliances and database platforms per NIST 800-53 and DHS 4300A.
  • Assist with log collection, aggregation, and forwarding to remote log management systems; support client auditing and retention policies.
  • Document network and database configurations; maintain runbooks; contribute to client architecture Repository updates.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations; help maintain 99.9% availability SLAs across CCB services.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 3–6 years of progressive, hands-on experience in hands-on cloud network and database engineering in federal environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering, or a related technical field. Relevant professional experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Solid working knowledge of cloud networking — VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, VPNs, load balancing — across AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Practical experience configuring and managing managed relational databases (MS SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL, and cloud-native data warehouse services.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage — block, object/bucket, archival/glacial, elastic file systems.
  • Proficiency with DNS management, IP address planning (IPv4/IPv6), and hybrid network connectivity.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud monitoring and logging tools, including integration with SIEM platforms such as Splunk.
  • Knowledge of IAM and KMS/HSM within cloud environments.
  • Understanding of FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST 800-53, and STIG compliance for cloud network and database components.
  • Experience using cloud consoles, CLIs, and APIs for configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills; able to diagnose network and database performance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DHS suitability / Public Trust clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, AWS Certified Database – Specialty, Azure Administrator Associate, or equivalent GCP certification.
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+ (required at time of hire).
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification.
  • DHS, or federal program experience.
  • Active Public Trust or higher clearance.

Clearance

DHS suitability and a Public Trust background investigation are required for this role. Active Public Trust or higher clearance is preferred. Selected applicants will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to controlled or classified information.
