JOB SUMMARY

The Basic Science Faculty - PhysiologyMicrobiology faculty member will serve as a Facilitator in the Problem-Based Learning PBL Pathway, teachassist in courses in areas of expertise, write examination questions, conduct workshops and/or review sessions in ones areas of expertise, advise medical students, interview applicants to medical school, and contribute to the mission of the college through research and service.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are a list of Academic Exercises that may be required as a member of the Faculty from time to time:

• Be available for possible occasional travel to Erie as may be assigned by the Senior Vice President and Provost and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for LECOM at Elmira. • Facilitate PBL sessions, meeting with the class according to the published schedule. • Teach and/or assist in courses in area of expertise utilizing lectures, video presentations, pod casts, and laboratory activities. • Evaluate all students who are in each class and each laboratory assigned. • Prepare evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various areas. • Contribute to the academic planning and development of LECOMs curriculum by preparing course syllabi, course outlines, lectures, materials, bibliographies, and other materials related to the courses and laboratories as assigned. • Provide academic advice and support to LECOMs students through regularly scheduled and published office hours and also by appointment. • Demonstrate continuing efforts to undertake research projects related to the faculty members discipline and/or the profession of Osteopathic Medicine. • Be physically present at LECOM for no less than 40 hours per week during normal school hours in order to attend to teaching duties, research committee assignments, student-related, and other duties. • Prepare written monthly reports documenting the foregoing activities in a form acceptable to the Senior Vice President and Provost and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for LECOM at Elmira. • Perform any other duties as assigned by LECOM in its sole discretion, including but not limited to participation in any new academic programs. • Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine COM. • Serve on committees as assigned and as advisor to assigned students and at least one club. • Provide at minimum two scholarly activity or research project yearly. • Preparation of educational tools, AV demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans, etc. • Preparation of demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members. • Faculty member will contribute and be responsible for overall student success, including but not limited to advising and student outcomes. • Faculty member will contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM, embodying the essence of Osteopathic Principles and Practices by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction. • Faculty member will participate in scholarly activity so to enrich and broaden the student learning experience. • Faculty member will commit to being a representative of LECOM by being actively involved in the community, including but not limited to serving on Boards, participating in community fundraisers, and overall outreach. • Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Associate Dean of Preclinical Education, the PBL Pathway Director, and the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for LECOM at Elmira. • Must be available for work during the hours assigned. • Accept other duties assigned needed for the Institutions needs.
