Budgeted Salary Range: The expected pay range for this position is $94,998 to $100,000 per annum.

The Basic Needs Student Care Coordinator provides non-clinical case management and basic needs coordination for the Dean of Students (DoS) Office and First Generation and/or Low Income Student Success Center (FLISSC). Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Dean of Students, with dotted-line relationship to the Associate Dean and Director of FLISSC, the Basic Needs Student Care Coordinator works closely with both the DoS and FLISSC teams to provide follow-up and logistical support to individual students and to student groups; connect students to basics needs resources and community-based support; coordinate, and implement services that fosters community, promotes belonging, and supports student success.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide case management and individualized support to students experiencing basic needs challenges, including food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, mental health, caregiving responsibilities, and related concerns.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Dean of Students Office and the First-Generation and/or Low-Income Student Success Center (FLISSC), ensuring coordinated support for students and seamless collaboration across both offices.

  • Connect students to campus and off-campus community resources, advocate on their behalf, and collaborate with campus partners to address barriers to student well-being and academic success.

  • Administer key basic needs initiatives, including the Student Emergency Fund and Basic Needs Pantry, while maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures.

  • Design, implement, and assess programs, outreach efforts, and educational initiatives that foster belonging, resilience, and student success, particularly for first-generation, low-income, former foster youth, and other under-resourced student populations.

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships, evaluate program outcomes using data and assessment, and contribute to the continuous improvement of campus-wide basic needs services and support.

  • Assist with Dean of Students administrative operations, case management systems, and the development and implementation of the Dean of Students policies and the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures.

In addition, preferred requirements include:

  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by and proven ability to work with a diverse population of students. Understanding of the needs of under-resourced populations including but not limited to low-income students, students from foster youth backgrounds, first-generation students, student parents/families, undocumented and DACAmented students, and international students among both undergraduate and graduate/professional student populations. Appreciation for the nuances of working within a highly selective residential institution, and ability to assist students in navigating this environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues surrounding socioeconomic class, identity and intersectionality.

  • Proven ability to interact with a diverse population of faculty, staff, alumni, and families.

  • Experience in collaborative work with other professional colleagues.

  • Advanced skills as a student affairs professional, including expertise in facilitating student learning, development, and success.

  • Demonstrated skills in critical incident and crisis management.

  • Solid knowledge of mental health issues in the college and graduate/professional student population.

  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.

Core Duties:

  • Administer an area or program in student services, evaluate and recommend decisions on program eligibility. Review decisions recommended by other staff.

  • Collaborate with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues. May be tasked with evaluating and recommending program improvements.

  • Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.

  • Provide guidance and counsel, oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness and make recommendations for future programs.

  • Reconcile complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.

  • Summarize data from multiple sources, prepare manage reports and presentations.

  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.

  • Develop and implement plans for outreach efforts, develop and maintain external community and university liaison, represent department and university at meetings and events.

  • Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to guide them in making appropriate choices and decisions. May have to escalate issues to a senior advisor.

  • Apprise students of research, fellowship and scholarship opportunities, make recommendations and may award grants.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to students and other departments; represent unit/department.

  • May lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.

  • May oversee, analyze and assist in financial processes and development of budgets.

  • Serve as a key member of a project team.

  • May train and supervise other staff, volunteers, student and temporary workers.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.

  • Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.

  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Advanced customer service skills.

  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

  • Understanding of financial transactions.

  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
