PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Band Director shall direct the instructional program for all band students and coordinate campus band activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Music Education
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements - All Level or Secondary Music education
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

Special Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of subject(s) to which assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of public school music teaching experience
  • Instrumental music experience preferred

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide instruction in the band program
  • Coordinate the instructional process for band students in concert/marching/jazz, theory, appreciation/history classes
  • Maintain accurate band equipment and uniform inventory, budget, maintenance, and general operation of all activities
  • Support all district policies regarding the welfare and education of students
  • Coordinate the efforts of the band booster organization
  • Coordinate campus band activities with campus programs, staff, and community
  • Prepare students for quality participation in UIL/TMEA sponsored events
  • Participate in the professional development of personal teaching competencies
  • Participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education
  • Communicate expectations and program goals to students, faculty, parents, community, and booster club members
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
  • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics
  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision and evaluation of District personnel is not a requirement of this position; however, the supervision of students is required. Direct the work of instructional aide(s).

  • Office equipment - persona computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
  • Communication equipment - radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
  • Video monitoring equipment
