Purpose

The Bakery Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all activities of the Bakery Department to achieve sales, labor, customer service, product quality, inventory, and profitability goals. The Bakery Manager leads department associates, ensures the production and merchandising of high-quality bakery products, and maintains compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development

• Recruit, train, coach, and develop Bakery Department associates.
• Schedule associates to effectively support production and customer service needs.
• Provide ongoing performance feedback, recognition, and corrective action when appropriate.
• Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and customer service excellence.
• Support succession planning and associate development initiatives.

Customer Service

• Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
• Assist customers with bakery product selections, custom orders, and special requests.
• Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
• Maintain a welcoming, clean, and customer-focused department environment.
• Promote customer loyalty through product knowledge and service excellence.

Department Operations

• Oversee daily Bakery Department operations, including production, packaging, merchandising, and inventory management.
• Ensure bakery products are prepared, displayed, and maintained according to company standards.
• Monitor inventory levels and order products and supplies as needed.
• Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
• Coordinate production schedules to meet customer demand while minimizing waste.

Product Quality & Freshness

• Maintain the highest standards for product quality, freshness, and presentation.
• Monitor product rotation and freshness to reduce shrink and maximize sales.
• Ensure bakery displays remain full, attractive, and properly merchandised.
• Conduct regular quality inspections of all bakery products.
• Ensure custom cake and specialty orders are completed accurately and on time.

Merchandising & Sales Growth

• Execute company merchandising plans, seasonal programs, and promotional events.
• Create attractive displays that maximize product visibility and sales.
• Analyze department sales performance and identify opportunities for growth.
• Promote seasonal, specialty, and featured bakery products.
• Develop action plans to achieve sales and profit objectives.

Financial Management

• Manage department labor, inventory, expenses, and shrink.
• Monitor key performance indicators and departmental financial results.
• Ensure efficient labor scheduling and productivity.
• Maintain inventory accuracy and effective ordering practices.
• Develop and implement plans to improve operational and financial performance.

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
• Monitor proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation procedures.
• Ensure associates follow all safety and sanitation requirements.
• Adhere to all company policies and regulatory standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong leadership and associate development skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
• Knowledge of bakery production, merchandising, inventory management, and food safety practices.
• Ability to analyze sales and operational reports.
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with retail systems, inventory tools, and ordering technology.
