Position Summary

The Back of House Director ensures excellence in every aspect of kitchen operations, from food quality and safety to team development and workflow efficiency. This leader sets the tone for excellence behind the scenes, empowering the kitchen team to deliver consistent, high-quality food that supports an outstanding guest experience.

The BOH Manager leads with care, discipline, and clarity, overseeing systems, processes, and people that uphold Chick-fil-A's high standards. As a key member of the leadership team, this individual helps bridge operational execution with people development, ensuring both production and purpose thrive in harmony.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and motivate the Back of House team to achieve excellence in performance and teamwork.
  • Model Chick-fil-A City Gate's Serve | Develop | Inspire leadership philosophy daily.
  • Cultivate a positive, disciplined, and unified kitchen culture where every team member feels valued and equipped.
  • Communicate expectations clearly and consistently, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Foster an environment of accountability, growth, and mutual respect.

Kitchen & Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations including food preparation, cooking, quality control, and presentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Chick-fil-A standards for food safety, cleanliness, and operational procedures.
  • Monitor inventory, food cost, and waste to drive profitability and stewardship.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace that supports team productivity.
  • Execute opening, mid, and closing procedures with precision and consistency.
  • Partner with the Director of Operations to ensure smooth coordination between FOH and BOH teams.
  • Analyze kitchen performance and implement improvements in efficiency and quality.

Team Development

  • Recruit alongside Talent/Training Director, train, and onboard new BOH team members in partnership with leadership.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to develop team members' skills and confidence.
  • Identify and invest in potential leaders, preparing them for future advancement.
  • Conduct training on safety, food handling, and Chick-fil-A's operational best practices.
  • Celebrate progress and recognize excellence to build morale and engagement.

Food Quality & Safety

  • Ensure all food meets Chick-fil-A's gold standard for taste, temperature, and presentation.
  • Uphold all HACCP and ServSafe guidelines, maintaining accurate logs and documentation.
  • Lead regular kitchen inspections and audits to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Manage product rotation, labeling, and storage procedures with excellence.
  • Proactively address potential issues before they impact food quality or safety.

Additional Expectations

  • Demonstrates flexibility by performing other duties as assigned to support operations and team success.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Maintains consistent and reliable attendance with dependable transportation.
  • Upholds Chick-fil-A City Gate's standards of excellence, integrity, and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven leadership experience in restaurant or kitchen operations.
  • Deep understanding of food safety standards, kitchen procedures, and inventory management.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team in a high-paced environment.
  • Financial and operational acumen, including waste reduction and cost management.
  • Flexible availability including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay:

  • Competitive (based on experience and role scope) and performance-based bonus potential

Schedule

  • 6, 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts
