AWS CLOUD ADMINISTRATOR – LINUX EXPERIENCE

Note: Requires Active Secret or ability to re-qualify immediately — Top Secret accepted

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our client, a leading federal defense contractor, has an immediate and long-term opening for an AWS Cloud Administrator with Linux experience to deploy and manage AWS cloud infrastructure within a secure network enclave, with emphasis on VPC architecture, environment configuration capture, and restoration capabilities. The role also supports Linux-based systems running ServiceNow MID servers and related components, combining Linux system administration with cloud infrastructure expertise for reliable platform operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — AWS INFRASTRUCTURE (PRIMARY FOCUS)

  • Build and maintain AWS environments — account structure, VPCs, subnets, route tables, gateways, and security groups
  • Design and implement VPC architectures including peering, NAT gateways, and network access controls
  • Capture and document AWS environment configurations using Terraform or CloudFormation for reproducibility and recovery
  • Restore AWS environments from IaC templates and backups following outages or configuration drift
  • Manage EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch resources within secure cloud environments
  • Implement AWS Backup and snapshot policies for EC2, RDS, and EBS recovery
  • Monitor infrastructure health and compliance using CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Config

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES — LINUX ADMINISTRATION (SUPPORTING ROLE)

  • Install, configure, and maintain ServiceNow MID servers on RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu
  • Apply system patches and hardening aligned with STIGs and CIS Benchmarks
  • Automate routine tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible

SECURITY & DOCUMENTATION

  • Design and maintain cloud environments aligned with FedRAMP and NIST 800-53 controls
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, VPC topology maps, runbooks, and IaC documentation
  • Coordinate with network and security teams on firewall rules and enclave connectivity

MANDATORY SKILLS

  • US Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to re-qualify immediately
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience (or Master's with 3+ years)
  • 3-5 years of hands-on AWS experience — EC2, VPC, RDS, IAM, S3, CloudWatch
  • Demonstrated experience designing VPCs and managing AWS networking components
  • Proficiency with Terraform and/or CloudFormation for environment capture and deployment
  • Experience rebuilding or restoring AWS environments from IaC and backup states
  • 2+ years of Linux administration — RHEL, CentOS, or Ubuntu
  • Scripting skills in Bash and/or Python
  • Working knowledge of FedRAMP, FISMA, or NIST cloud security standards

NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS

  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or SysOps Administrator certification
  • RHCSA or equivalent Linux certification
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow platform or MID server operations
