JOB PURPOSE

As AVP, Property Underwriter, you’ll help drive our growth strategy, while shaping and executing high-impact insurance programs that move the business forward. 

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the onboarding and ongoing management of property programs, ensuring a smooth transition from diligence through execution
  • Partner cross-functionally (actuarial, underwriting, claims, legal, compliance, finance, and operations) to evaluate, structure, and approve new programs
  • Coordinate the full due diligence process—analyzing underwriting performance, financials, claims, and operational readiness
  • Prepare and deliver clear, decision-ready materials including reports, presentations, and committee documentation
  • Support contract development and maintain accurate, well-organized program documentation throughout the lifecycle
  • Monitor program performance post-bind, including profitability, underwriting audits, and bordereaux review to ensure alignment with agreed terms
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with program administrators, brokers, and reinsurance partners to support execution and long-term success
  • Contribute to product strategy by analyzing market trends, identifying growth opportunities, and providing broker and competitive insights
  • Conduct internal and external research to inform new business initiatives and strategic decision-making
  • Take on special projects and initiatives that support broader team and business priorities

Skills & Experience


Skills:
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data, trends, and financials 
  •  Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities 
  •  Effective communicator, both written and verbal, with experience preparing presentations and executive materials 
  •  Collaborative team player who can also operate independently in a fast-paced environment 
  •  Sound judgment with a solid understanding of regulatory and compliance considerations 
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint); experience with modeling tools (e.g., AIR, RMS) is a plus 
  •  Ability to build relationships and navigate across internal teams and external partners 
  •  Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with evolving priorities and deadlines 
  •  Willingness to work onsite in our Midtown NYC office three days per week
Experience & Education:
  • Proven track record over 5–7 years in property program underwriting within (re)insurance 
  •  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience 
  •  Industry credentials (e.g., CPCU, ARe) are a plu
The applicable base salary range for this role is $145,000 to $152,000. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
