Job Description

Plans, organizes and directs the staff and activities of the region’s Public Relations Department, and assists in leveraging PR opportunities for the health system with Manhattan-based new outlets. Provides leadership and management of media relations, publications, social media, media communications for ongoing developments events, and crisis management. Serves as a region’s spokesperson, and implements strategic communications programs that support institutional goals and long-range strategies that support the health system’s region.
1. Develops plans and directs all aspects of public relations policies, objectives and initiatives for the health system’s region to achieve strategic operating goals and objectives. Leads health system’s PR-related rebranding efforts within region’s news outlets, while also pursuing opportunities with national and trace media.
2. Creates, sets goals for department operations and directs media relations strategies, communications and publications targeting a wide range of audiences.
3. Develops internal and external communications strategies to increase recognition and visibility of the health system’s region and services internally, to physicians and the community.
4. Directs staff, consultants and agency personnel on strategic and tactical media communications efforts.
5. Collaborates and consults with the region’s clinical leadership to determine issues of immediate and long-term importance, and gain awareness of potential opportunities or obstacles.
6. Develops and executes crisis management strategies and communications in consultation with executive, legal and clinical leadership.
7. Selects, develops, manages and evaluates direct reports; and oversees the selection, development, management and evaluation of indirect reports.
8. Conceptualizes and directs editorial content of image and promotional publications to support development, marketing and hospital services and programs.
9. Builds and maintains productive inter/intra departmental and vendor work relationships to optimize operations.
10. Performs related duties, as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, required. Master’s Degree, preferred.
• Minimum of twelve (12) years progressively responsible experience in public relations and/or mass communications, required.
• Excellent oral written communications and ability to deal with all levels of management.
