Position Summary
Mountain Heritage High School is seeking a full-time Career and Technical Education CTE Aviation Technology Instructor to develop and lead a new and innovative aviation program. The instructor will be responsible for delivering high-quality STEM instruction in aviation technology while developing curriculum creating instructional materials and supervising hands-on aviation projects that prepare students for careers in the aviation industry.
The Mountain Heritage High School Aviation Technology Program will be one of a limited number of programs of its kind in the state of North Carolina. Theprogram is aligned with Federal Aviation Administration FAA Airframe and Powerplant A&P certification standards and is designed to expose students to aviation career pathways while developing technical academic and employability skills relevant to aviation and aerospace industries.
The program will partner with Tango Flight to provide hands-on application of STEM principles. As part of the instructional program students will participate in the construction of an RV-12iS aircraft and engage in additional aviation-related projects and applied learning experiences aligned with the program curriculum.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and implement curriculum aligned with aviation technology standards and FAA Airframe & Powerplant concepts
Design and deliver supervise and facilitate engaging STEM lessons and hands-on student projects including aircraft construction and maintenance activities
Partner with Tango Flight to support the aircraft build program and related training activities
Maintain a safe and organized laboratoryworkshop environment
Support student interest in aviation and aerospace career pathways
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor&rsquos or Associates Degree in a related field OR a high school diploma with 2 years of work experience in a related field.
Hold or be eligible to hold an CTE teacher&rsquos license in 820 Technology Engineering and Design Education OR 74100 CTE Local Course Option Limited license with two years of related work experience.
Background or professional experience in aviation or a related technical field such as engineering mechanics manufacturing or a skilled trade
Strong ability to teach and explain mechanical systems the physics of flight and FAA regulations related to aircraft maintenance
Preferred Qualifications
FAA Airframe and Powerplant A&P Certification
Experience building or maintaining experimental aircraft
Knowledge of aviation manufacturing processes
Experience working with students in an instructional training or mentoring environment
Strong passion for aviation and aerospace
Commitment to hands-on project-based learning
