General Summary

 Automation Technician II is responsible for independent installation, troubleshooting, and repair of automated manufacturing equipment, including robotics, PLC’s, and conveyors. Supporting up time of high-speed automated equipment in a distribution/3PL environment with strict SLAs. Performing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly preventive maintenance procedures, as well as leading periodic overhauls of major equipment centers.

 Primary Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues/equipment
  • Troubleshoot, modify, and program PLCs and robotics, including repair to control arms
  • Install, calibrate, and commission new automated equipment
  • Utilize HMI (human/machine interface) to monitor system performance and ensure any system jams, faults or other system performance drains are identified and resolved prior to generating system downtime
  • Knowledge of all machine functions, recognizing machine faults, rectifying root cause of failure, and assisting operators when called upon to get machines back in operation quickly
  • Possess advanced mechanical abilities so that they can make minor and major machine adjustments when necessary
  • Document parts usage and submit parts requests according to established min/max settings
  • Participate in package-to-package changeovers
  • Performing scheduled and emergency repairs, including preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, and adapting new production equipment
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to document work orders, repair history, and PM activities
  • Reading and applying complex blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to understand system operations
  • Strictly follow safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and ensure compliance with OSHA/ANSI standards
  • Providing after-hours or weekend emergency repair services
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required and 3+ years of industrial maintenance or automation experience, or equivalent combination of vocational education and experience
  • Perform intermediate PLC troubleshooting and basic programming.
  • Capable of working independently, though they may assist on complex projects
  • Focus on routine, complex repairs and maintaining system uptime
  • Ability to work at elevated heights using ladders as well as operating ariel lift equipment for extended periods of time
  • Must have exceptional problem solving and maintenance skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer service driven.
  • Strong team player.
