We are seeking a skilled Automation Machine Builder to assemble, debug, commission, and service advanced automated equipment. This hands-on role collaborates closely with engineering and project teams to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, support PLCs, robotics, and vision systems, and enhance machine design and performance. Responsibilities also include equipment installation at customer sites, service and maintenance support, documentation, and mentoring junior technicians.

How You Will Make a Difference:

  • Lead the assembly, debugging, and commissioning of automated equipment and subsystems.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues, making necessary adjustments.
  • Suggest and implement design improvements to simplify assembly, manufacturing, and functionality.
  • Assist with troubleshooting PLCs, robotics, vision systems, and related peripherals.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop, test, and commission solutions; document feedback and ECRs.
  • Contribute to system-level design and architecture for complex automation systems.
  • Coordinate with project leads or managers on timelines, budgets, and scope.
  • Perform light fabrication of custom mechanical components.
  • Maintain and service equipment and tooling.
  • Install and commission equipment at customer sites.
  • Perform service calls for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades at customer locations.
  • Prepare and deliver operation and maintenance documentation.
  • Support the training and mentoring of junior Automation Technicians.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Lift and move objects weighing:
  • Up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Up to 25 lbs frequently.
  • Up to 10 lbs constantly.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel materials and tools.
  • Ability to bend, push, pull, and reach overhead.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience commissioning and troubleshooting automated equipment.
  • 5+ years of machine building experience.
  • Experience with machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a proven ability to diagnose and repair issues.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools for parts and assemblies.

Additional Skills

  • Experience building or troubleshooting low-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and understand PLC, robotics, or similar programming.
  • Experience troubleshooting and optimizing machine vision, robotics, safety systems, sensors, and measurement devices.
  • Familiarity with machine safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Experience developing processes, procedures, manuals, and training documentation.
