This approach enables continuous operations, improves reliability, lowers energy costs, and reduces environmental impact – transforming distributed generation from simple backup power into a high-performance, grid-supporting solution.Role OverviewThe Automation & Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting electrical and control systems that enable safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Enchanted Rock's power generation and microgrid assets. This role owns control system design and execution from development through commissioning and handoff, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure and operational standards.This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for engineers with strong experience in electrical and automation systems who enjoy solving complex technical challenges in both office and field environments. The Automation & Controls Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, compliant, and scalable control solutions.Key Responsibilities:Develop and review electrical and control system designs, including schematics, interconnection diagrams, and control packagesSupport full project lifecycle execution, including installation, configuration, commissioning, and performance testingProgram and configure PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI systems to meet operational and functional requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve complex electrical and automation system issues, performing root cause analysis as neededEnsure successful integration of new systems with existing site infrastructure and technologiesParticipate in FAT, SAT, and user acceptance testing to validate system functionality and performanceCollaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field teams to execute projects effectivelyMaintain technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, test records, and operating manualsEnsure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal engineering proceduresParticipate in risk assessments and promote strong safety practices across all activitiesIdentify opportunities to improve system reliability, efficiency, and performanceCommunicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersRequirementsBasic (Required) Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related field5+ years of experience in electrical, automation, controls, or instrumentation engineering within an industrial environmentExperience supporting projects from design through commissioning and handoffStrong knowledge of electrical systems, control systems, and applicable industry codes and standardsHands‑on experience with PLCs, SCADA, DCS, and HMI systemsProficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office toolsStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skillsEffective communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearlyAbility to work independently and manage priorities in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environmentPreferred Qualifications:Experience with power generation, distributed energy systems, or microgridsFamiliarity with SEL relays (SEL‑351, SEL‑751, SEL‑787)Experience with Structured Text and Ladder Logic programmingKnowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols (Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, CAN)Experience supporting commissioning activities across multiple project teamsDo you have what it takes to join the Enchanted Rock team?
