Job DescriptionCDM Smith is seeking an Automation Engineer to support our clients in Carlsbad, CA. The role involves designing and implementing SCADA systems, controls, and instrumentation in the process industries. The engineer will provide excellent client service and deliver quality work on time and within budget.ResponsibilitiesUnder light supervision, create basic to moderately complex instrumentation, controls, and related systems designs using 3D and 4D drafting programs. Develop basic technical memoranda related to design issues for clients.Review basic to highly complex component level shop drawings. Provide responses to requests for information (RFIs) under supervision.Under light supervision, create basic to moderately complex human‑machine interface (HMI) designs, programmable logic controllers (PLC), reports, etc.Perform testing and startup of instrumentation, controls and related systems independently with minimal supervision.Assist with the development of basic to moderately complex operations & maintenance manuals for designed instrumentation, controls and related systems.Assist in the development of systems training for end users.Perform other duties as required.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline.3 years of related experience. Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree.Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel depends on specific duties and project demands.Driving RequirementsAn appropriate and valid driver's license is required.Preferred QualificationsExperience with Water/Wastewater highly preferred.Experience within an Engineering and/or integration firm highly preferred.Skills & AbilitiesSolid knowledge of instrumentation, controls and related systems designs.Good communication skills.Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.Strong knowledge of 3D and 4D CAD drafting.Travel Requirements20% - 40%EEO StatementCDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries are an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
