Hartford HealthCare Rehabilitation Network is the premier rehabilitation provider in Connecticut. We provide rehabilitation services across the continuum - acute care hospitals, long term care facilities, sub-acute rehabilitation, homecare, outpatient centers, and in community settings such as senior centers, work sites, and schools and colleges. We offer over 30 outpatient locations with a variety of specialists, including oncology, women's health, sports medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language, we are known for our commitment to high quality, customer focused outcomes.
Position Description
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Administrative Rehab, the Authorization Specialist performs all duties related to insurance verifications, prior authorizations and re-authorizations in a timely manner. Maintains documentation and insurance portal access and ensures accurate records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Monitors patient registrations and identifies and communicates errors. Communicates updates in insurance or regulatory guidelines to the supervisor/manager and relevant departments.
Responsibilities
Verifies insurance eligibility, prior authorizations and re-authorizations accurately and timely for patients.
Reviews daily workflows, communicates updates to leadership, ensures authorization details are entered for timely billing, and reports coverage issues as needed.
Supports denial audits and collaborates with various departments around billing and general operations related to authorizations.
Obtains prior authorizations and re-authorizations from insurance companies by phone, fax, or portals.
Submits required clinical documentation, accurately records authorization details, and communicates any changes in authorization or eligibility to leadership.
Maintains confidentiality of all information pertaining to clients, families, and employees.
Ensures accurate account management and timely authorization requests per payor guidelines.
Reports authorization delays to the Supervisor/Manager.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
1 year of experience working with insurances in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting required
2 years of experience in a healthcare setting and familiarity with payor sources, processes and guidelines, including prior authorizations preferred
Strong written and verbal English communication skills are necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Experience and knowledge of insurances and prior and re-authorizations
Knowledge of Government, Medicare Advantage and Commercial Payors
Experience with payor portals and clearinghouses
Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with physicians, clinical and administrative staff, managers, patients and insurance companies
Must be self-motivated and can work independently and within a team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates excellent computer skills

Shift Details: Monday through Friday with Saturdays by rotation. Shifts will vary between hours of 7am-730-8pm Monday through Thursday, 7am-530pm on Fridays, Sat between 8-4 based on need
