HOURS PER WEEK: 40; Willingness to travel up to 25% within Texas required.

General Description

Under the direct supervision of a project manager or senior auditors, performs basic auditing tasks through participation, observation, and assistance while developing foundational audit skills and/or research work of state entities and other entities receiving state or federal funding. Detailed instructions regarding specific duties are provided at the beginning of the assignment. Work is closely supervised and reviewed for accuracy throughout the internship.

Work Location

This position is primarily in-office, with limited telecommuting days available based on team and agency needs. Regular onsite attendance is considered an essential function of this position.

  • Performs research pertaining to audit or advisory topics, legislation, agency operations, and related issues.
  • Prepares written documentation on work performed.
  • Uses automated systems for working papers, in addition to word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Observes audit fieldwork, client interviews, team meetings, and related activities to gain familiarity with audit processes and methodologies.
  • Assists in verifying information contained within an organization's records.
  • Assists in collecting and analyzing data on an organization's operations.
  • Assists in verifying compliance with state and/or federal guidelines and requirements.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

General Qualification Guidelines

Experience and Education

Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in accounting, finance, economics, business administration, public administration, or public affairs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of accounting methods, information systems, business practices, government audit standards, legal contracts and business law.

Skill in effective oral communication; writing clearly and concisely; working effectively in a team environment with positive interactions; and using standard business software to prepare audit summaries and analyses, including Word and Excel.

Ability to analyze audit information; and communicate clearly and effectively.
