Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in audio systems architecture, design, or development.
  • 1 year of experience with MATLAB or Simulink.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Large Language Models (LLMs), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), Text-to-Speech (TTS), or ML/AI using C, C++, Python.

Preferred qualifications:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field specializing in audio.
  • Experience shipping high-volume consumer electronic devices, particularly within phone, hearables, wearables.
  • Experience with technical leadership including setting direction and driving business impact.
  • Expertise in generative AI and speech research, including first-author publications at top AI conferences (e.g., NeurIPS, ICML, InterSpeech, etc.).
  • Expertise in audio frameworks and standards (e.g., android audio, bluetooth audio, LE audio).
  • Understanding of end-to-end audio signal chains, audio processing concepts, and acoustics.

In this role, you will require a strong ability to navigate and bridge the gap between hardware and software domains, collaborating deeply with cross-functional teams including Hardware, Software, Silicon, Research, UX, and Product Management.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $159,000-$231,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the definition of the end-to-end system audio architecture for new Pixel products and features, demonstrating technical leadership and goal.
  • Execute experiments including the design, implementation (prototyping), analysis, and communication of results.
  • Translate product concepts and user experience goals into scalable technical specifications, encompassing hardware components, software frameworks, APIs, and algorithms.
  • Architect and drive solutions that span across hardware and software boundaries, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance.
  • Drive the resolution of complex system-level trade-offs and challenges related to audio experience delivery, and collaborate across disciplines to integrate research into Google products.
