TITLE: Attendance Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree strongly preferred`
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products and automated systems
  • Knowledge of school attendance and truancy laws preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and organization skills
  • Valid Connecticut drivers' license
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal

JOB GOAL: To investigate students who are chronically truant and work with these students and their guardians to improve school attendance.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct investigations into student truancy.
  • Make telephone calls to absent and truant students and/or guardians.
  • Conduct home visits of students to encourage school attendance.
  • Prepare and assist in attendance hearings.
  • Create and maintain a data based system for tracking and documentation purposes of messages, home visits, and other intervention attempts.
  • Maintain list(s) of chronically truant students.
  • Maintain positive communication and interactions with parents, guardians, students, and other family members.
  • Assist with development of attendance improvement plans.
  • Assume such other functions as may be determined.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Seven hours per day, ten-month year. Salary is hourly.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Non-Certified Staff.
