Qualifications:

Degree: Minimum of Bachelors degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or related field.

Certificate: Current Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers; Valid Missouri Athletic Trainer license (or ability to obtain); Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.

Experience:

Experience working with secondary school athletic programs; training and experience in injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation; familiarity with MSHSAA guidelines.

Primary Responsibilities:

To provide quality athletic training services for the co-curricular benefit and safety of students; to model appropriate health, safety, and injury-prevention practices; to supervise and maintain a safe environment for all athletic activities.

ATHLETIC TRAINING PROCESS

Knows the skills, techniques, and best practices of athletic training and sports medicine.

Provides injury prevention, evaluation, emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation services.

Prepares student-athletes for safe participation, including considerations of fitness, health, equipment, hydration, and conditioning.

Implements and follows concussion protocols and return-to-play procedures in accordance with appropriate governing agencies.

Instructs and enforces athletic health and safety standards for student participation.

Maintains accurate medical and injury records.

Assesses individual student-athlete readiness and recovery progress.

Teaches and models positive elements of sportsmanship, safety, and wellness.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP

Exhibits interest and enthusiasm for students and athletic programs.

Plans effectively for coverage of practices and events.

Manages athletic training facilities, equipment, and medical supplies.

Supervises the athletic training environment to ensure safety.

Maintains current records, including inventory of medical supplies and equipment.

Follows district policies for budgeting and purchasing.

Communicates athletic health requirements and procedures to students and staff in all district buildings.

Collaborates with coaches, school nurses, administrators, parents, and medical providers.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with students.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with staff, both in-district and out-of-district.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with administrators.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with parents/community.

Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with medical and media representatives.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Implements the policies and procedures of the program and district.

Participates in professional growth activities.

Demonstrates understanding of the legal aspects of athletic health care and supervision.

Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and confidentiality.

Conducts self at all times as a representative of the school and assists in establishing and maintaining good relationships with the community and other school districts.

Completes duties and responsibilities as assigned by district administrators or the activities director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The athletic trainer is employed for the contracted school year with actual practices and participation established by the school activity calendar schedule. Compensation is according to the rates as established annually by the Board of Education. Contractual compensation is subject to all regular withholdings as the salary of the individual; any additional duties may be subject to specified daily rates and FICA.

EVALUATION

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually according to board policies and the Warrensburg R-VI adopted evaluation model.
