Summary In this role, the clinical athletic trainer works under the direct supervision and responsibility of a physician while reporting to the clinic manager. ATC will assist staff providers, residents, and medical students with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks using a team-based approach in providing patient care.
Responsibilities • Performs a thorough medical history on each patient. • Review of medications and allergies and how quality of life is affected. • Performs an appropriate physical examination on each patient seen, including range of motion testing, strength testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, ligamentous testing, and special tests as needed. • Orders and interprets diagnostic studies under the direction of a physician, including radiographs, MRIs, EMG studies, CT scans, diagnostic ultrasounds, rehabilitation referrals, and physician referrals. • Provides educational responsibilities specific to the needs of each individual patient, including exercise instruction and demonstration, and answering patient questions regarding the treatment plan, surgery, rehabilitation, and future care. • Prepares patient for treatment and procedure in a timely manner. • Performs treatment and procedures, casting, bracing, according to established guidelines. • Prepares and assists the physician with injection procedures done in the office. • Follows OSHA guidelines regarding body substance isolation, disposal of sharps, etc. • Documents accurately and timely in patients records, all treatment procedures done, and initials documentation. • Performs a wide variety of direct technical care functions and delivers athletic training services for orthopedics and sports medicine.
Education Essential • Bachelors degree • One year of experience
Credentials Essential • Athletic Trainer National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certificate • Basic Life Support
