Summary: The Director of Athletics / Dean of Students is directly responsible for the overall leadership and development of the Capac Athletic program for grades 7-12 and for supporting student behavior initiatives and management in the Jr.-Sr. High School. In the role of Athletic Director, the individual will provide guidance and direction for Capac's athletic programs, including, but not limited to, budgeting, program development, coaching staff, event scheduling, and supervision. Attend meetings, athletic events, and extracurricular activities in the district, and at other locations as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants should hold a degree in education or a related field of study, with preference given for a Master's Degree with credits toward a certificate in School Administration. A minimum of five years of coaching experience at the high school level and/or two years of experience in athletic administration is preferred. Additional qualifications include the ability to:
  • Articulate the relationship between interscholastic athletics and academics.
  • Explain and demonstrate experience with MHSAA policies and guidelines.
  • Multitask, work under pressure, solve problems, and make and enforce difficult decisions.
  • Demonstrate experience supervising and organizing multiple athletic programs at the high school level.
  • Demonstrate experience in student behavior intervention program implementation and student behavior management.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, coaches, parent groups, and other community stakeholders.
  • Clear criminal history check; Minimum five years of successful teaching and coaching experience.
  • Alternatives to the above qualification, as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain an athletic program that emphasizes safety, healthy lifestyle choices, and participant welfare.
  • Hire and maintain a coaching staff that believes in the value of educational athletics, which is to promote athletics as a component of the educational process, where students learn valuable lessons in practice and competition that will shape their future.
  • Manage athletic events/competitions, develop a budget, and administer MHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Support the building administrator and student support staff to implement positive behavior interventions and management.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of this position, which include sitting, standing, talking, seeing, and hearing. Occasionally, it will be expected to repeat the same hand, arm, or finger motions many times and push or lift up to 50 lbs., such as athletic equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public, staff, students, and families.
  • Performs other functions and duties as assigned by the superintendent.
  • Performs duties with awareness of all district requirements and board of education policies while modeling district standards of ethics and professionalism; implements policy/procedural changes from administration, the board of education, or state/federal changes.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet multiple daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines and demands from multiple people with flexibility and attention to detail, and interact with the public, staff, students, and families.
  • Performs other functions and duties as assigned by the supervisors.
