The Athletic Department Supervisor of Operations is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the operational functions of the Merrillville High School Athletic Department. This position supports the Athletic Director and Asst. Athletic Director by ensuring the efficient management of athletic events, facilities, transportation logistics, equipment, compliance documentation, and game-day operations. The supervisor works closely with coaches, administrators, custodial staff, transportation services, and event personnel to provide a safe, organized, and positive experience for student-athletes and spectators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- Experience working in high school or collegiate athletics operations preferred.
- Knowledge of athletic event management and interscholastic athletics.
- Ability to be bonded
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during athletic seasons.
- Ability to manage multiple events and logistical tasks simultaneously.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises event staff, game workers, ticket personnel, and other operational support staff as assigned.
- Help coordinate and oversee game-day and event operations for all athletic contests.
- Schedule and supervise game workers, including ticket takers, scorers, timers, announcers, and security support.
- Help ensure proper setup and breakdown of athletic facilities for competitions and events.
- Serve as the on-site operations supervisor during assigned athletic events.
- Coordinate athletic facility scheduling and usage in collaboration with the Athletic Director, Asst. Athletic Director and building administration.
- Monitor athletic facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness for practices and competitions.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, and distribution of athletic equipment and supplies.
- Work with maintenance and custodial staff regarding facility needs, repairs, and event setup.
- Coordinate transportation schedules for athletic teams in collaboration with the district transportation department.
- Ensure travel arrangements, departure times, and logistical details are communicated to coaches and staff.
- Maintain documentation related to travel schedules and event logistics.
- Assist with IHSAA and conference compliance requirements, including event documentation and eligibility processes.
- Maintain accurate records for athletic participation, schedules, and operational reports.
- Support the Athletic Director and Asst. Athletic Director with operational planning and department organization.
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during athletic events.
- Assist with crowd management procedures and emergency planning.
- Coordinate with administration and security personnel to maintain a safe environment for student-athletes and spectators.
- Serve as a liaison between coaches, school administration, transportation, custodial staff, and event personnel.
- Communicate event logistics and operational updates to coaches and relevant staff.
- Support positive relationships with visiting schools and officials.
- Assist with special athletic events, tournaments, and postseason contests hosted by the school.
- Support initiatives that promote sportsmanship, school spirit, and positive athletic
