Summary of Duties
The Behavioral Health Technician/Individual Support Worker (fmr House Parent) cares for people who have disabilities, chronic illnesses, cognitive impairments, or age-related problems. He or she provides social interaction and companionship for patients in various healthcare settings under the direction of a licensed professional.
Responsibilities • Complies with ATC and Oconee Center CSB policies/procedures • Complies with client facility nursing policies/procedures • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient services and facility practices in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel • Provides companionship services, such as sitting with patient or reading to patient • Provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved • Document observances of clients into Catalyst at the end of shift
Qualifications • At least six months of work experience as a sitter/companion in a healthcare setting • Experience in Behavioral Health (Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health or Substance Abuse) • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered
Knowledge & Skills • Must be a self-started and work independently • Must be able to perform assignments with minimal supervision • Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures • Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal
