ASSOCIATE TECHNICIAN - TECHNICIAN - Wet Chemistry Technician

Who We Are:

We are the Petroleum Products Research Department in the Fuels and Lubricants Division! We perform laboratory testing on an assortment of fuels and lubricants from different types of vehicles and engines.

Objectives of this Role:
  • To ensure and improve the quality control, compliance and efficiency of petroleum products in the automotive industry.
  • Communicate with lab supervisor and project managers to ensure project requirements and deadlines are met.
  • Perform chemical and instrumental analyses on fuels, oils, and other petroleum products using standard test methods and Test Inspection Procedures (TIPs).
  • Complete testing in a safe manner by following safety practices and Environmental Management and Quality Systems.
  • Support and manage adequate laboratory supply levels and assist in maintaining laboratory and instrumentation cleanliness.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
  • Perform test analysis in accordance with ASTM, TIP or laboratory procedures and specifications.
  • Testing will also include reviewing and documenting calibration records, chemical expiration dates and QA values as valid before completing sample analysis.
  • Use of various testing instrumentation/equipment including analytical balances and a variety of laboratory glassware such as flasks, cylinders, pipettes and beakers.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe and efficient manner by following and adhering to safety practices, policies and procedures.
  • Work on multiple tasks productively and effectively in a team or as an individual contributor with limited direct supervision.
  • This position is intended to support the evening shift (3pm – 12am).
  • Maintain laboratory stock by retrieving supplies from an on-site stockroom and ordering through a purchase requisition.
  • Received chemicals will be input into a chemical inventory management system, labeled properly, and stored in designated chemical cabinets.
Requirements:
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Shift work required. Intended to support the evening shift (3pm – 12am).
  • 0-5 years: Some related work experience or academic lab experience in a laboratory.
  • 0-1 years: General computer experience required with a working knowledge of software including Excel, Word.
  • Must be able to adhere to all safety requirements.
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required.
