Associate Safety Engineer

Job Description And DutiesUnder the general direction of the District Manager with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupation Safety and Health (DOSH), Enforcement Branch, the Associate Safety Engineer is responsible for performing independently the full range of professional journey level safety engineering work in construction, electrical, and industrial functions related to the Cal/OSHA program. The Associate Safety Engineer conducts, including the most difficult, safety inspections, accident investigations, consultations, and journey level assignments, related to construction, electrical, and industrial occupational safety and health, throughout the State. Associate Safety Engineers are to perform all work in accordance with DIR-DOSH policies, DOSH Compliance Policy and Procedure Manual, Directives, and Memorandums.Qualifications & RequirementsMust be reachable on an employment list or have transfer eligibility, reinstatement eligibility, or SROA/Surplus eligibility.Must pass required California Labor Code/OSHA examinations as applicable.Must demonstrate competency in occupational safety and health for construction, electrical, and industrial environments.Must possess oral fluency in Spanish and English; bilingual skills are required for at least 10% of job duties. Eligible for additional compensation upon passing a Spanish language proficiency examination.Special RequirementsThe position requires fluency in the Spanish language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.Working ConditionsThis job is located at: Cal/OSHA – Oakland District Office, 1515 Clay Street, Ste. 1303, Oakland, CA 94612. The location serves Alameda County. Some of this work will be in an office environment and at other times the work will be at a field site that has the potential for exposures to safety and hazardous substances.
