A Day in the Life of an Associate Roadway Discipline Manager at Hanson

 

Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

 

As an Associate Roadway Discipline Manager, you will lead and grow our roadway discipline across Texas. Reporting to the Roadway Discipline Manager, you will work closely with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to deliver transportation projects for local governments and state transportation departments. You'll also partner with leadership on hiring, process improvement, strategy, and project execution.

 

Team Management: Manage and mentor roadway staff, balance workload, and support on-time/on-budget delivery. Coordinate with the Roadway Discipline Manager to secure resources from other offices and disciplines as needed.

 

Collaboration: Partner with project managers to define scopes, budgets, schedules, and staffing plans for roadway tasks.

 

Design and Technical Oversight: Lead and contribute directly to roadway design and plan production, including roadway geometry, PS&E, traffic control, and coordination with other disciplines.

 

Project and Staff Coordination: Ensure that resources are allocated appropriately, assist with project scheduling, track backlog and staff utilization.

 

Support Business Development: Assist with client relationships, scopes of service, proposal strategy, and interview preparation.

 

Quality Leadership: Lead QA/QC reviews and support consistent standards across project teams.

 

 

What We're Looking For

 

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

 

Skills: Experience with design and plan production for municipal and local government transportation projects. Additional experience with TxDOT schematic/PS&E design and permitting is desirable.

 

Experience with roadway design software, preferably Civil 3D.

 

Strong communication abilities, especially in explaining technical concepts to engineers and clients.

 

Ability to mentor and manage junior to mid-level engineers and staff.

 

Effective relationship-building with internal and external stakeholders.

 

 

Work Environment

 

Occasional travel (typically 1-2 days/month) for visiting staff in other locations, client meetings, and site visits. We believe in a strong work-life balance and support reasonable schedules and flexible work arrangements.

 

We have a CAD training program to support users of all levels, along with an active software user group to tackle new challenges.

 

 

Education/Experience

 

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.

 

Approximately 14 to 20+ years of Professional Engineering roadway experience.

 

Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license.

 

 

In this role, youll be critical in supporting and driving the success of transportation projects, managing a diverse and skilled team, and interacting with key clients to deliver impactful infrastructure solutions.

 

Salary range: $150,000 - $180,000 per year. Salaries are based on years of experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance.
