Associate Rangeland Management Specialist

Location: Midland, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $42.00/hour

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Onsite for the first month, then hybrid)

Dean's Professional Services is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Associate Rangeland Management Specialist to support a leading land and natural resource management organization in Midland, TX. This role is ideal for a professional with a passion for conservation, wildlife management, and sustainable land stewardship. The Associate Rangeland Management Specialist will assist in managing the surface estate of approximately 2.1 million acres of Permanent University Fund (PUF) Lands, helping preserve natural resources while supporting responsible land use and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor compliance with University Lands Flexible Grazing Leases and evaluate natural resources to ensure land management objectives are achieved

     

  • Conduct grazing lease inspections, prepare reports, recommend corrective actions, and monitor completion of required improvements

     

  • Evaluate rangeland conditions, including soil and vegetation, and recommend stocking rates and sustainable grazing practices

     

  • Assist with wildlife management activities, including aerial helicopter surveys, population assessments, harvest recommendations, and hunting lease evaluations

     

  • Coordinate grazing, wildlife, and conservation improvement projects through local, state, and federal funding programs

     

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with grazing lessees while providing guidance on acceptable land management practices

     

  • Collaborate with internal departments and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with lease agreements, environmental regulations, and land use policies

     

  • Evaluate grazing lease improvement applications and oversee implementation of approved projects

     

  • Support Surface Operations by monitoring oil and gas activities and promoting best management practices that minimize environmental impact

     

  • Prepare reports, analyze land management data, identify resource challenges, and recommend sustainable solutions

     

  • Utilize GIS mapping and Microsoft Office applications to document land resources and support planning initiatives

     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Management, Biology, or a related field required

     

  • Master's degree in a related field preferred

     

  • Experience in rangeland management, wildlife conservation, or natural resource management preferred

     

  • Knowledge of grazing management, wildlife habitat conservation, ecological systems, and sustainable land stewardship

     

  • Understanding of land management practices, environmental regulations, and conservation principles

     

  • Experience working with oil and gas surface operations or West Texas land management is a plus

     

  • Valid Texas driver's license required

     

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and GIS mapping applications

     

  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills

     

  • Ability to interpret legal agreements, analyze complex land management issues, and develop practical recommendations

     

  • Willingness to travel and conduct field inspections, including aerial wildlife surveys
