TeamHealth is seeking a full-time experienced academic emergency medicine EM physician to serve as the associate program director of the emergency medicine residency program at Mercy Health - St. Ritas Medical Center in Lima, Ohio. This is an exciting leadership opportunity to shape and grow a relatively new residency program that graduated its first class of residents in 2023.

As associate program director, you will collaborate with the program director to oversee all aspects of the residency, including strategic planning, accreditation compliance, curriculum implementation, faculty development, and resident mentorship. Hospital leadership pledges complete financial and personnel support for this position. We aim to equip you with the resources to foster academic excellence, improve faculty engagement and accountability, enhance program reputation, and promote professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the program director in providing strategic leadership and administrative oversight of the EM residency program
  • Collaborate with the program director to ensure compliance with ACGME accreditation requirements and maintain educational excellence
  • Recruit, mentor, and evaluate faculty and residents
  • Assist with curriculum development and implement changes to existing rotations
  • Work closely with the CCC chair to coordinate all resident academic and professionalism remediation activities as the need arises
  • Promote an environment of scholarly activity through research publications and presentations
  • Foster collaborative relationships with nursing, allied health, and hospital administration
  • Coordinate academic scheduling with chief resident as needed
  • Limit clinical responsibilities to 28 hours per week on average

Qualifications:

  • Board certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM)
  • Active medical license and hospital privileges or eligibility in Ohio
  • Minimum of three years experience as a clinician, administrator, or educator in emergency medicine
  • Prior involvement as a core faculty member in an ACGME-accredited residency program preferred
  • Demonstrated educational and administrative expertise acceptable to the review committee
  • Proven record of scholarly activity, including involvement in national, regional organizations, research, and academic presentations
  • Strong interpersonal, administrative, and team-building skills

Program Overview:

Mercy Health - St. Ritas Medical Center, a Level 2 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center, serves an 11-county catchment area and provides emergency care to approximately 56,000 patients annually. The three-year emergency medicine residency program is comprised of eight faculty members and 18 accredited residency positions. The program maintains continued ACGME accreditation and provides comprehensive training in all aspects of emergency care employing a physiological approach and an interdisciplinary team model in which residents play a pivotal role.
