POSITION: Associate Professor of Accounting
DIVISION|DEPARTMENT: Business Division | School of Business & Aeronautical Sciences
FLSA STATUS: Full-Time | Exempt
REPORTS TO: Chair, Business Division
The Associate Professor of Accounting is a full-time non-tenured faculty position requiring a strong educational background specifically in more than one area of Accounting. The Associate Professor of Accounting shall have the primary responsibility of supporting the Business Division by maximizing its operating performance while achieving institutional goals and objectives. The Associate Professor of Accounting must have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses both face-to-face and online. Faculty must develop and utilize a syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
Essential Functions
- Maintain and oversee a full-time teaching and service load.
- Develop and utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
- Participate in scholarly activities and academic services beyond the regular teaching assignment.
- Remain current in the discipline and instruct assigned courses in a manner consistent with the scheduled time, course content, and course credit approved by the faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees.
- Complete all teaching, advisement and service assignments which are a normal part of their duties in a professional and timely manner.
- Give individual evaluations of student performance including midterm and final grades.
- Adhere to high standards of professional integrity and conduct.
- Treat students, colleagues and other members of the academic community fairly, courteously and professionally.
- Refrain from activities that may result in a conflict of interest with Florida Memorial University.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishments of the responsibilities and functions of the Business Division.
- The omission of specific duties does not preclude the division head from assigning tasks that logically relate to the position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong research background in the Accounting field.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures.
- Ability to handle information of sensitive and confidential nature in the utmost professional manner.
- Effective analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational, and time management skills.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse constituents
- Attention to detail and adaptability to a changing environment is extremely important as well as dependability.
- Familiarity with the Jenzabar technology suite for higher education.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, initiative, resourcefulness, and personal accountability.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion.
- Manage, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks/projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment.
- Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Minimum Requirements
- An earned doctoral/terminal degree in Accounting and 18 graduate credit hours in Accounting.
- The ability to provide quality instruction in the accounting discipline.
- Demonstrated sustained peer reviewed research, scholarly and/or creative accomplishments that represent the University in Accounting.
- Demonstrated sustained commitment to having a positive impact through service that represents the University in leadership capacities.
- Evidence of continual professional growth and development.
- Holding the rank of assistant professor for six years.
- Experience teaching in higher education.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends (if applicable).
