Minimum Qualifications:
M.D. in ophthalmology.
State license to practice and specialized training.
Need to have a thorough understanding of eye anatomy, function, and disease.
Responsibilities:
Prescribe corrective lenses, including eyeglasses and contact lenses
Perform surgeries to correct eye injuries and conditions, such as cataracts
Treat eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease
Prescribe oral and topical medications to treat eye diseases
Advise patients on proper eye care and maintain detailed medical histories
Refer patients to subspecialty ophthalmologists for evaluations regarding eye surgery and/or long-term treatment.
