Tesla Midwest Automation is a fast-paced cutting-edge engineering group, automating the production of Tesla's latest most advanced products. Our group is tasked with finding the limits of physics in the machines we create. What You'll Do
- Conceptualize, design, and detail mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks for automation cells, robotic end effectors
- Perform Tolerance analysis, FEA simulations, and material selection to ensure robustness under real world dynamic conditions
- Collaborate closely with electrical and controls engineers to size and select actuators, sensors and vision systems
- Build and test prototypes in our in-house engineering lab, get your hands dirty creating prof of concept test systems
- Contribute Fresh ideas in concept reviews and brainstorming sessions for new projects
- Work with the machine shop to create and release your creations for fabrication
- Participate in assembly and debug of systems on our production floor and learn firsthand what it takes to build an automation system and all the nuances of good machine design
- Travel with the machine to the various Giga factories across the US to install and commission your machines. This could be a 24-7 weekend sprint for an upgrade, a small install, or a 3-month installation of a massive new production line
What You'll Bring
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to conceptualize and create mechanical designs from concepts
- Proficiency in using solid modeling CAD design software
- Hands on experience with prototyping (3D printing, machining, hobby projects)
- Humility and decisiveness: Humility to ask and learn from everyone. Decisiveness to make a call when sometimes you don't have all the information you need
- New Grad to 4 years of experience in mechanical design
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation
$83,448 - $125,172/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
