Job SummaryPerforms a variety of legal work and participates in the performance of complex legal analysis in both general and transactional legal work, including such areas as employment law, health law, conflicts of interest, procurement, open‑records law, contract drafting and review, immigration, higher education law, legal research, policy review, and health care compliance issues. Participates in supporting and supervising litigation as assigned.ResponsibilitiesAnticipates, identifies, and resolves legal issues in both transactional legal work and on a variety of general legal issues, including healthcare related issues. With respect to transactional work, drafts, reviews, negotiates, and advises on contracts involving software licenses, equipment purchases, professional services, employment, research, and related matters. With respect to general legal issues, advises University leaders on employment, faculty, and student matters. Advises University leaders in administrative hearings and litigation and oversees legal representation in such cases. Negotiates settlements involving legal issues or transactions on behalf of the University in conjunction with other University officials. Advises on responses to records requests made pursuant to state and federal law. Drafts, reviews, and advises on policies and procedures, regulations, bylaws, and other documents. Educates and trains University community about legal issues. Conducts and supervises legal research and analysis. Prepares written and verbal legal advice and opinions of counsel as needed. Coordinates legal services to departments and divisions within areas of legal specialty.
