The Associate Director of Human Resources is responsible for overseeing the daily routine HR functions for West Virginia Wesleyan College, including but not limited to recruitment, benefits, talent management, leave administration, and compliance. This position works collaboratively with the Vice President of Human Resources and across the institution to support the institutions faculty, staff, and managers while aligning with the colleges mission and values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversees the daily workflow of the department, performing routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave administration. • Manages the recruiting, hiring, and onboarding process, including advertising, screening, selection, and completion of all necessary new hire paperwork during orientation, collaborating with hiring managers to understand skills and competencies required for vacancies. • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications, submitting new hire information to the state of West Virginia as required. • Responsible for maintaining personnel files for all employees. • Responsible for maintaining accurate personnel transactions and insurance coverage records. • Manages employee benefit administration, including enrollment, coverages, and cancellations. • Responsible for reviewing semi-monthly payroll, ensuring accurate and timely compensation for all employees. • Responsible for administering and tracking Family Medical Leave (FMLA) as necessary, guaranteeing appropriate paperwork is completed and communications are provided within the timelines required by law. • Responsible for filing and managing Workers Comp and Unemployment claims as needed, including completing necessary paperwork and providing responses within a timely manner. • Assists with ensuring the college is compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and recommended best practices, updating HR policies and faculty and staff handbooks when necessary. • Assists with ongoing efforts to streamline and automate HR processes. • Assists with completion of internal and external required reports and surveys of the department. • Assists with disciplinary matters, disputes, and investigations as needed. • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and sensitive matters to the appropriate staff. • Promotes a respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplace, serving as the point of contact for employment concerns and HR-related grievances. • Serves on campus committees as requested. • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
